What animals teach us about business
It's national pet day
So it felt like the perfect moment to introduce a few of the animals who keep me grounded, and occasionally distract me from my laptop.
- Hattie, my coloured cob
- Dodger, my New Forest rescue pony
- And Lyla, my honorary “shared” dog next door
I’ve owned horses since I was 11, so they have always been a huge part of my life. They are where I reset, step away from the noise, and come back with a clearer head.
More than just a break from work
At first glance, time with animals might look like a break from business. And in many ways, it is. But it is also where some of the most valuable lessons quietly show up.
Animals do not respond to noise, overthinking or rushing. They respond to clarity, consistency and trust.
And when you think about it, the same applies to marketing.

The link between animals and marketing
There are three things animals teach us that translate directly into building a strong business:
Patience
Nothing happens quickly with a stubborn pony. Results take time, and pushing too hard rarely works.
Consistency
Animals thrive on routine. In marketing, showing up regularly builds familiarity and confidence with your audience.
Trust
Trust is not built overnight. It comes from repeated, reliable experiences, whether that is with a horse or your customers.

Why this matters for your business
If your marketing feels overwhelming, it is often because it has become overcomplicated. In reality, strong marketing is built on simple, human principles.
Clear communication.
Consistency.
Trust.
These are the things that create real connection, and connection is what turns interest into loyalty.

A gentle reminder
So today, while celebrating National Pet Day, I am also reminded that the best business lessons are not always found at a desk.
Sometimes they are in a muddy field, on a quiet walk, or in a moment where everything slows down just enough to make sense again.
And that reminder is always worth coming back to.
